1. Compassion for others: we have compassion for others because the Bible tells us to love one another as ourself, giving the example of the Good Samaritan. Also, we have compassion for others because it is God's own character to do this, and when we have him 'living in our heart' we want to be like him. (Check out Psalm 145, which is full of examples of God's character.) 2. "God is really real and Jesus really lived and died on the cross, he is really going to come again to judge the living and the dead. Jesus and the Father really sent the Holy Spirit, which you can experience today, although people experience this in different ways. Q. How much of this true for you? Q. How did this become true for you? 3. Telling others about how we have experienced God (answered prayers, dreams, visions, etc.), is both faith building for other Christians, but can also be helpful in spreading the faith to pre-Christians. Q. Have you heard other people's testimonies that were meaningful for yours, or were helpful in your situation? 4. The way we live illustrates what we believe more than what we say. Discuss. 5. One way to think about our relationship with God is to ask, "who is sitting on the throne of my heart?" Or who's in charge of me? Q. What competes for the throne of your heart? Q. What steers you back to Him? This blog is based on Rev. Kim Salo's sermon on September 14.
1. When did you realize that your entire life, not just parts of it, are "under new management" by God? 2. When do you feel most strongly that you are still a "trainee" in the Kingdom of God? 3. Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-19. When Paul says, "If anyone is in Christ, that person is a new creation," what does he mean? 4. Read Leviticus 19:18, and Luke 10:27. Has the command to "love your neighbour as yourself" ever directly led you to talk to or help a stranger or an enemy? What happened? 5. Read 1 Peter 3:8-17. How are we to act or react when we are insulted or "picked on" because we are Christians? Name 2 things you will say if, as in verse 15, someone asks you to " give the reason for the hope you have"? What does this passage say to us about our attitude to possibly hostile "outsiders"? PREACHER'S BLOG ON THE SERMON TOPIC -THE HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH - MORE THAN JUST A BUILDING’
By Rev. Ruemu, Rector, St. Aidan’s Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Sunday, September 7th, 2025. Text: Galatians 6:10 (NIV) - "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." I. The Foundation: We Are Family (The Identity)-(Gal. 6:10; Gal. 3:26-28, Eph.2:19). How? . II. The Characteristics: What Our Household Looks Like (The Culture)-What? (John 13:34-35, Gal. 6:2, Rom.12:15, Acts 2:42, Eph. 4:5). and hold each other accountable to walk in the light of Christ, motivated by love and a desire for each other's holiness. III. THE RESPONSIBILITY: LIVING AS FAMILY MEMBERS (THE PRACTICE)-How? (Gal. 6:10, Eph. 4:3, 8-12, 1st Pet. 4:10, Rom. 12:6-8, Matt. 18:15-17) TAKE HOME POINT: The "household of faith" is not a quaint metaphor; it is the living, breathing reality of the Church. We are bound together by the blood of Christ, children of the same Father, called to live as a true spiritual family. This means radical love, mutual support, genuine fellowship, and faithful accountability. It means prioritizing each other, seeking unity, using our gifts, and pursuing reconciliation. Let us leave here today not just as individuals who believe, but as committed members of God's household. Let us actively "do good" to one another, especially within these walls and this community of faith. Let our love for each other be so evident, so tangible, that the world looks on and says, "See how they love one another! They must truly belong to Christ." |
