Homosexuality and the Bible

Does God love Homosexuals?

“Yes of course you are loved by God.”  Does this mean we agree with the homosexual lifestyle?.  The answer is,  “No of course, because you are loved by God!”  You,  like the rest of us are here to be transformed, not indulged, to be discipled,   not affirmed in our dysfunctions.  We are all in this together.  Because God loves us he accepts us the way we are,  and because God loves us, he refuses to leave us the way we are.

Does scripture say same sex activity is wrong?

The church, in being asked to bless same sex unions, is being asked to ignore Holy Scripture.  The Bible is clear in its requirements for holy living.  All forms of sexual behavior outside of marriage are not part of God’s plan.  Homosexuality, promiscuity and adultery are all deviations from a holy life style.  Romans 1.26 states that: therefore god gave them up in the lists of their heart to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves…27: their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  Holy Scripture provides all the direction and description to know that same sex unions are ungodly.

What about the moral issue?

The moral issue is one of care and concern for one’s fellow Christians.  We are expected to hold people within the church accountable. In the secular world, we often call it tolerance when we are really being indifferent.  The Church must uphold the Scriptures and express them to all who seek membership in God’s family.  We do not presume that we are anything but sinners in need of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We welcome all to provide the necessary resources for healing and wholeness.

Where do you get the authority to say same sex activity is wrong?

We get the authority by believing in the absolute authority of scripture: that what is Gods’ law is sovereign and that God’s mercy is infinite.

Haven’t we discovered that same sex attraction is genetic?

We all have some kind of genetic tendency which is not good for us.

What is the basis of the Anglican Unity we talk about?

The Anglican Church worldwide articulates its faith by sharing in the historic creeds, the 39 articles, the solemn Declaration made in 1893 and the Book of Common Prayer.  This is our shared heritage.  It is a faith given once for all that we are intended to live by and transmit intact to the next generation.
